Burned out? Three Tips for You

Being the boss is hard. Trying to manage employees while keeping them motivated to produce a constant positive output is stressful and time consuming, and managers everywhere are becoming exhausted. And with that exhaustion, it becomes harder to focus on your business’ goals and keep your work environment ideal. The manager’s to-do list goes on and on, so here are 4 essential points for a to-not-do list when it comes to keeping employees engaged.

Don’t humiliate employees. Demeaning a worker, especially in front of others, is an effective way of demolishing trust and motivation. Don’t speak negatively about other workers either.

Don’t assume people are mind readers. Your employees may not understand your reasoning behind a decision. Keep your ideas clear in case there is any confusion. Take responsibility for your choices as a manager and be ready with an explanation.

Don’t give unclear feedback. Be exact in what you want your employee to take from your critiques, formal and informal. Don’t mislead, don’t sugarcoat, and don’t ignore. If feedback is clear, then strengths are easier to capitalize on and flaws are easier to mend.

Don’t forget about praise. Employees will be more eager to work and produce if they know that their efforts are appreciated. Make sure your employees know that their strengths are valued. It will keep the workplace engaging and the overall final product of your business will be better.

While it’s easy to become burned out as a manager, keeping your employees engaged benefits you as well. Ensuring that your business is motivating and exciting for your employees means that your business will be motivating and exciting for you, too.
