HR Nightmares: The Disconnect Between Employee Experience and Business Goals

By October 31, 2016 No Comments

losing-sleepNew SilkRoad research examines top worries of HR professionals and finds that 56 percent of HR professionals have no process linking employee experience to annual business goals.

CHICAGO (October 25, 2016) — SilkRoad (www.silkroad.com), a global leader in talent activation solutions, recently announced its fourth annual “What Keeps HR Up At Night?” report. Based on responses from 728 HR professionals, the report examines perspectives, challenges and concerns of HR professionals and reveals the top nightmares in many HR functions, including talent management and retention.

What Scares HR Leaders Most: Report Highlights

♦  33 percent of HR professionals are concerned with connecting employees to company goals, and 51 percent report anxiety toward motivating employees about company goals; yet 56 percent have no annual process that links experience to goals.

♦  HR technology doesn’t address the complete needs of HR pros; 39 percent use disconnected systems and data; 37 percent lack data and analytics capabilities to gain a “big picture” of company talent; 35 percent still manually compile data for reports and key metrics.

♦  Many HR pros expressed concern related to creating experiences and programs that engage employees across several HR specialties, including learning (57 percent) and performance management (46 percent)

“Employees crave a clear understanding of how their role and efforts impact business outcomes and the bottom line; this report shows that HR pros want to offer that kind of insight but lack the ability to do so,” said Jimmy Hodson, Product Marketing Manager at SilkRoad. “As businesses move from talent management to talent activation to drive better outcomes, HR pros need the necessary tools to effectively transform employee engagement into a measurable continuum of experiences. Without the right pieces in place, HR pros will continue to face sleepless nights while perpetuating the HR silo.”

Methodology

SilkRoad conducted the “What Keeps HR Up at Night” survey using an online survey instrument (SurveyMonkey) in late summer 2016. Findings were compiled and aggregated by a third-party agency. 728 professionals responded, including chief human resource officers (CHROs), VPs, directors, managers, recruiters and organizational development professionals. 53 percent of respondents have more than 10 years of HR experience.
