Expectations first 12 months:
- Conduct enterprise-wide compliance risk assessment, identify weaknesses and create and implement a plan to bring program to a high standard
- Work closely with leadership to establish improved privacy standards and controls
- Establish a robust privacy training and communications program to inform and educate employees of all levels
- Build collaborative and trusting relationships with key stakeholders
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, oversee HIPAA-compliant privacy program and policies and continue to enhance the privacy program to address changes in legal and regulatory requirements
- Support the Compliance Department by acting as the subject matter expert on State and Federal Privacy Regulation such as HIPAA
- Perform research on various privacy compliance topics; developing compliance tools based on current system software
- Provide functional or technical supervision to other employees in relation to Privacy Compliance
- Serve as a role model and expert for ethical conduct in matters of privacy compliance
- Reviewing and evaluating privacy related policies and questions within the organization
- Enable consistent, effective privacy practices which minimize organizational risk and ensure the confidentiality of protected health information
- Monitor the performance of the privacy program on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness and providing regular reports and updates to the Chief Compliance Officer for presentation to the CEO, Board of Trustees and Audit and Compliance Committee
- Oversee, direct and deliver privacy training and orientation to all employees
- Perform routine privacy compliance monitoring activities or directing internal audits to ensure companywide compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations
- Ensure all privacy concerns are documented and addressed in a timely manner
- Partner with HR leadership in determining action steps related to employee discipline and corrective action
Requirements:
- Essential Education: Bachelor’s degree; Desirable Education: Advanced Degree
- Desirable Certification: Active CHC or HIPAA Compliance Certification, or actively pursuing and will complete within first year of hire
- Compliance Experience: You must bring significant healthcare privacy compliance experience (HIPAA), with demonstrable exposure to improving privacy programs
