Search Firms Help You Avoid Bad Hiring Decisions

So you have a job opening, but you don’t have the time to search the vast field of qualified applicants properly. What to do?

Hire an executive search firm. Head hunters can also be used, although they tend to place candidates in small to mid-size offices. When a prospective company approaches me to fill a certain role, I assure them I will pound the pavement looking for as “perfect” a fit as it gets. That is my job: To source, cultivate and place top talent when the wrong choice can cost a company upwards of $50,000.

Sound stressful? It can be, but over the years I’ve learned the true joy of connecting top folks with top companies. There are three major reasons why using a search firm can reduce the burden on an HR department:

  • Waste less time and capital. If your company is thorough with what they are searching for, there’s a good chance I can find he or she more quickly and for less money. Head hunters and search firms exist to help bridge connections, so take advantage!
  • Gain access to a vast network of contacts. A recruiter taps an extensive field of contacts to secure the right person for your position. They may bring your two or three, but those two or three might be people you wouldn’t have had contact with naturally. Now not only has the search firm filled a hole in your company, but they’ve given you options if other needs arise. Win-win, right?
  • Know deeper expertise. Chances are even the best HR managers won’t be able to vet a potential employee to the extent a recruiter can. As a prospect gains and builds skills outside the workforce, an executive head hunter will have maintained those relationships to place them later on. They have great interpersonal experience and solid intuitive experience. With the additional knowledge of a head hunter, you can be rest assured that your hire will be qualified.
