An overwhelming percentage of compliance and ethics professionals say “No.” In a recent survey by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics® (SCCE) and Health Care Compliance Association® (HCCA), 88% of the respondents indicated the two jobs should not be combined. Many of these respondents also said the compliance officer should not report to corporate counsel, but instead should be on the same level as other control function heads in the organization.
The compliance community sees the need for this division in order to allow compliance officers the freedom and power they need to carry out their responsibilities.
