The Benefits of Hiring International Interns

We talk a lot about how making your workforce more diverse can increase global perspective and better your company overall. Yet only 10 percent of companies believe that their internship program is highly diverse, and that’s not too hard to believe, considering that plenty of interns live within 30 miles of where they work. Yes, hiring close is convenient, but what are the benefits of hiring international interns? Nathan Parcells thought of a few:

Talent. There’s no lack of prestigious colleges outside of the United States, and businesses that are able to pull interns from those schools and programs are going to be in touch with a wealth of desirable interns.

Perspective. Having ties internationally not only increases your business’ prestige; it gives you better insight and knowledge to that region.

But are there downsides to hiring internationally? And can they be worked around?

Process. It will be tedious. Hiring internationally naturally involves more work and is less efficient. Luckily, there are several organizations to help with the process.

Recruiting. The recruiting process for hiring internationally is likely to be much different than your typical process. The outcome, however, will be incredibly rewarding and well worth the effort
