Chief Compliance Officer expectations first year:
- Update policies/procedures
- Roll out of training
- Develop audit/monitoring plan for the year
Chief Compliance Officer responsibilities:
- Develop/revise policies and procedures designed to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct
- Periodically review/update the Code of Conduct for continued relevancy
- Collaborate with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution
- Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures
- Monitor activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of compliance activities
- Identify potential areas of compliance risk and implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues
- Provide reporting to the Board of Directors
- Maintain an effective compliance communication program for the organization, including promoting:
- use of the compliance hotline; (b) heightened awareness of Code of Conduct, and (c) understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures
Chief Compliance Officer requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred i.e. Law Degree
- Considerable experience working in an in-house Compliance role
- Industry experience in either: medical device, biotechnology or pharmaceutical
- Multi-geographic experience
- Rich understanding of risks facing a global medical devices company like: Anti-Bribery Anti-Corruption, 3rd party distributors, Anti-Kickback, etc.
- Executive reporting including to Board of Directors is preferred
